Niseko summer sports

Niseko has gradually gained a reputation as a summer fun centre, including golf, tennis, fishing, horseback riding, sea kayaking, white water rafting, trekking, and bicycling.

Climbing and trekking in such a beautiful area is a thrill that has to be experienced. Surrounded by mountains, the area abounds with a variety of walks for all tastes and abilities. Strong climbers can venture on a route up Mount Yotei, while for the less experienced there are trails to be enjoyed along Lake Shinsen-numa’s shores or around the upper wetland area. On the water, the Shiribetsu River is a fairly gentle river, lending itself easily to rafting, canoeing and other watersports, although during April and May melting snow swells the river and transforms it into a raging torrent The thrilling descent that results is not for the faint-hearted! Many adventure companies in the Niseko area offer rafting and canoeing and even beginners can enjoy the challenge the river presents during its calmer moments.

Its also an excellent river for the keen angler. Trout, salmon and char are all popular catches, and attract those who enjoy fly and lure fishing.

Golf is increasingly popular , and there are many good courses in the area. There can be few places in the world quite so idyllic for a game of golf, with a backdrop of mountains, pine forests and lakes. Courses such as Niseko Tokyo, and Niseko Village are well worth some time, and lessons are offered to beginners, while the courses provide a challenge for the more experienced player.

Numerous activities beckon to the visitor, so that its impossible to have a dull moment here mountain biking, canyoning, birdwatching, nature treks, and paragliding are among the many pastimes on offer.
